Juice WRLD’s death: hip hop loses another young talent

21-year-old rap artist Juice WRLD has passed away in Chicago, Illinois. News of his death was confirmed by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office on Sunday.

Born Jarad Anthony Higgins, the rapper recently celebrated his 21st birthday on December 2 prior to his sudden death.

According to officials in Chicago, the Lucid Dreams hitmaker suffered from a medical emergency moments before his death. Juice WRLD was taken to a nearby hospital after having complications while he was at the city’s Midway Airport.

His cause of death had not been determined according to the office of Cook County Medical Examiner’s spokeswoman Natalia Drevyanny. Outlets are still waiting on the results of his autopsy as of this writing.

Interscope Records, the music label behind Juice WRLD paid tribute to the rapper in a statement:

“Juice made a profound impact on the world in such a short period of time.”

“He was a gentle soul, whose creativity knew no bounds an exceptional human being and artist who loved and cared for his fans above everything else,” Interscope Records added as per CNN.

The label signed Juice WRLD after the success of his songs “Lucid Dreams” and “All Girls Are the Same” on SoundCloud according to Billboard. According to the music sharing platform, the rap artist received the most responses for his song Lucid Dreams on the app back in 2018. It was the most played song on the platform that year.

Hip Hop has seen a trend of losing rap artists at a young age. Juice WRLD’s death follows that of XXXTentacion and Mac Miller. The former was gunned down at the age of 20 while the latter died of a drug overdose at 26.
