Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge signs overall pact with Amazon

Fresh off her Emmy win last weekend, Phoebe Waller-Bridge has inked an overall deal with Amazon Studios.

Under the pact, Waller-Bridge will create and produce short-form content for Amazon. The shows will then exclusively premiere on the streaming platform Amazon Prime Video. Waller-Bridge is best known for her work as creator, writer, and headliner of the show “Fleabag.” The multi-hyphenate bagged a total of six Emmy trophies for the Amazon comedy drama’s second season.

Fleabag saw its roots at the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival when Waller-Bridge performed it on stage. It was then adapted for television and the rest is history.

Variety reports that Waller-Bridge will amass USD20 million a year under the deal.

In a statement published by the entertainment news outlet, the “Crashing” star shared her enthusiasm to work with Amazon. She says, “Working with the team on ‘Fleabag’ was the creative partnership dreams are made of. It really feels like home. I can’t wait to get going!”

Waller-Bridge also received acclaim as creator of “Killing Eve” with her credited as writer and showrunner of the series’ season one. The BBC America thriller series stars Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer. The latter took home the Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama last Sunday. Oh was nominated under the same category.

Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke released a statement regarding the newly signed deal telling Variety:

“We are thrilled to be continuing our partnership with Phoebe at Amazon Studios! As evident in her great success at the Emmy Awards this week, she is clever, brilliant, generous and a virtuoso on multiple fronts including writing, acting and producing.”
