Florence Pugh still can’t go over finding out that she’s up for an Oscar after this year’s nominees were announced on Monday.
The Little Women star was among the actresses nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress recognizing her role in Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Louisa May Alcott classic.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Pugh expressed how surreal it feels to be lined up with the likes of Kathy Bates, Margot Robbie and Laura Dern. Scarlett Johansson, her Black Widow co-star is also nominated under the same category.
“It hasn’t really sunk in, so I just keep on talking about it,” the 24-year-old said about the prestigious honor. “I will, at some point this afternoon, just sit and make sure that it has fully resonated. But it’s crazy.”
The young actress admitted that she will “never be sick of” being referred to as an Oscar-nominated actress. “That’s the coolest thing about being nominated. It’s there now, for the rest of my life,” she explained.
“This is the thing that [makes you] hope that one day, you’ll work hard enough, and people will see you and appreciate your work, and that happened today. It’s an amazing moment, and it’s so wonderful that the hard work has paid off.”
Pugh’s first Oscar nomination is impressive given that she appeared in just eight films since her 2014 big-screen debut. Young actors being nominated by the Academy Awards has been a trend in recent years. One may recall Timothée Chalamet’s Oscar nomination for Call Me By Your Name and Hailee Steinfeld’s nomination for True Grit.
