Netflix’s The Crown never intended to cover Prince Harry, Meghan Markle

British actor Jared Harris clarified that the Netflix series “The Crown” “never” had plans to introduce an arch based on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the show. According to Harris who stars as King George VI in the period drama confirmed that he had consulted the show’s creator Peter Morgan about the matter.

“It’s not gonna go that far. No, I asked. Peter [Morgan] said he’s not going that far,” the 58-year-old said in an interview with Us Weekly during an art gala opening night in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

He continued,  “It was never gonna go this far though.”

As a Briton, Harris also shared his sentiments about Prince Harry and Meghan’s decision to “step back” from their royal duties as senior members of the British monarchy.

“You have to look at the decision in the context of what happened to his mother [Princess Diana],” the actor explained before adding that Harry is made the right move in order to protect his wife. “And if he thinks the same thing might be happening to his wife, he’s gotta protect her. He’s doing the right thing.”

Since Meghan married into British royalty, she has been under intense scrutiny from the United Kingdom’s press. Local media outlets have continuously published a slew of controversies including her alleged feud with sister-in-law Kate Middleton, her being the cause of a falling out between Prince Harry and Prince William and most recently, her relationship with her estranged father, Thomas Markle.

Harris’ statement speaking to Us Weekly comes in the wake of Netflix’s announcement that The Crown will end after its 5th season. This was a year earlier than most fans expected with the last season featuring Imelda Staunton as the next actress to take on the mantle of Queen Elizabeth.
