Hulu documentary on Greta Thunberg coming in 2020

A documentary that chronicles the work of sixteen-year-old Greta Thunberg as a climate activist will soon arrive in Hulu next year.

“Greta” — the original documentary’s working title — will premiere on the Disney-owned streaming service next year. Produced by Frederik Heinig and Cecilia Nessen under the production banner B-Reel Films, Greta is directed by Nathan Grossman.

Deadline, who was first to report the news, published the documentary’s logline that read:

“In August 2018, Thunberg, a 15-year-old student in Sweden, starts a school strike for the climate. Her question for adults: if you don’t care about my future on earth, why should I care about my future in school? Within months, her strike evolves into a global movement. The quiet teenage girl on the autism spectrum becomes a world-famous activist.”

The documentary team has been following Thunberg during her earlier school strikes in her hometown Stockholm, Sweden all the way to her slow rise as the face of a climate movement. “Greta” aims to broaden the reach of Thunberg’s substantially influential protests as she pushes for the urgency of the climate crisis.

Hulu reportedly jumped in on the project as deals were being made for its distribution.

Thunberg recently made headlines after Time Magazine hailed her the youngest ever individual to be the magazine’s Person of the Year. Big personalities have also lauded the young activist for her contributions in the fight against climate change. These include Michelle Obama, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Woody Harrelson.

Her documentary will be amongst Hulu’s lineup of culturally relevant stories including Hillary, Ask Dr. Ruth and Minding the Gap.
