Find an activity you enjoy

Finding a physical activity that you genuinely enjoy is ideal for becoming more active in your day-to-day life. You might not be aware of all the options that are out there – there are hundreds!

From simply taking a walk in your neighbourhood to taking dancing or martial arts classes, there are many activities that help you exercise more!

Whether you enjoy exercising alone or in a group, there is a physical activity out there for you! A good way to start is by finding out what classes or activities are available at your nearest community centre or gym.

Exercise with a friend

Making your physical activity into a social routine is a great way to implement more exercise into your daily life. By making a weekly commitment with a friend, it’s a nice way to catch up while doing something beneficial to your health!

Good options include taking Pilates classes together, or even joining a social team sports group! It’s a great way to socialise and meet people while working towards your personal goals.

Set a schedule

Having a set time to exercise every day is a good way to get into a routine. By sticking to a schedule, your physical activity will become more natural and implemented into your daily life.

This doesn’t mean you always have to commit to doing the same activity. As long as you have a specific time set aside for physical activity, you can improve your fitness commitment!

Take the stairs instead

By shifting your habits and taking the more active option, you can improve your fitness! Next time, consider taking the stairs instead of the lift, or walking rather than driving or taking the bus.

Think of ways that you can shift your normal routine to be more active!

Don’t rush your goals

It’s good to have the motivation to start being more active, but don’t rush your transition, especially if your life currently doesn’t involve too much physical activity.

It’s better for you to have a smooth transition to becoming more active. Start by making small changes to your day-to-day life, then pick up one-or-two activities and see what works for you!

It’s important that you aren’t overworking your body and that you have time to adapt to these changes.
