Hilary Duff’s greatest blessing is her kids, 7-year-old son Luca and 15-month-old daughter Banks. While Luca is handling big brother duties pretty well, he wasn’t quite on board with the idea of having a sister before Banks was born.
The “Younger” star spoke to PureWow in an interview where she revealed that “The guilt that I felt for bringing her into the world was so big.” The mother of two was referring to how Luca had been her only child for six years and he found it difficult to accept that he was having a baby sister.
“It was just he and I for so long that he was like, ‘Why? Why, Mom? Why would you do this? I really just love the way it is,’ ” recalled the 32-year-old actress.
She then clarified that Luca wasn’t trying to pull an attitude or being “bratty” saying, “it was just so sad.”
Duff admitted that there was a point when she thought “‘How do I reverse this?! It’s too late now,’” after finding out she was with child. But the actress knew that Luca will warm up to his sister once she’s finally born. And that’s how it exactly went.
She recalled giving birth to Banks and “He came in after I had her. I was just holding her, and the look on his face was an absolute shock. He just said, ‘That’s my sister!’” Luca even kept himself from sneezing in the room to keep his newborn sister from getting sick.
Now Duff describes the relationship between Luca and Banks as “the best.”
“It’s a chemical reaction between siblings sometimes where he knows he has to protect her.”
