Anita Durst, the founder of ChaShaMa and a member of the Durst family, hosted a kick-off Art Soiree party at Anita’s Way in Times Square to celebrate BroadwayHD, the leading theater streaming service. BroadwayHD is being recognized for its commitment to Broadway and live performing arts and will be honored at the upcoming ChaShaMa Gala in June.
Anita Durst’s interest in the arts began when she joined the Avant-Garde theater company Dar A Laz after high school. She performed with the group throughout Europe until the death of its director, Reza Aboh. She then returned to New York City to pursue her acting career and noticed the need for more affordable space for artists. In 1995, she founded ChaShama to transform unused real estate into spaces for artists, small businesses, and free community-centric art classes. Over the past 25 years, ChaShama has partnered with property owners to create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive world.
Anita Durst is passionate about recognizing and celebrating other Champions of the Arts. In June, ChaShaMa will honor BroadwayHD for its decade-long commitment to making theater accessible to a global audience through streaming technology. With its premier subscription streaming service, BroadwayHD is breaking down barriers of economics, geography, and physical limitations. The founders of BroadwayHD, Bonnie Comley and Stewart F. Lane, will accept the ChaShaMa honor at the June 8th Gala in New York City.
