Charlize Theron on how The Addams Family challenges norms

Gomez and Morticia are back on the big screen along with the whole Addams family. This time, they’re getting the 3D animation treatment with a timely twist.

Now, The Addams Family star Charlize Theron (Morticia Addams) talks representing a family that embraces everything unique about them. The Oscar-winning actress sat down in an interview with Entertainment Tonight to discuss the upcoming film.

Speaking to the news outlet Theron says she’s “always been intrigued” at re-thinking what a normal family should be. The mother of two then noted that the iconic Addams family have been in pop culture since the 1960s as they represented inclusion.

“‘Yes, we’re weird, we’re different, and we don’t look like everything else or everybody else out there and that’s what makes us [who we are.] That’s what we bring to the table,'” Theron says about the cartoon clan.

“And I just think it’s so timely to tell that story and to be able to be a part of something like that,” the actress added noting that having her own two children inspired her to be in the film.

Celebrating self-acceptance is a central theme of the upcoming flick slated for an international release on October 10. Starring alongside Theron are actors Finn Wolfhard (Pugsy Addams, Chloe Grace Moretz (Wednesday Addams), Oscar Isaac (Gomez Addams) and Nick Kroll (Uncle Fester) among others.

Aside from The Addams Family, Theron will also be starring in the upcoming Fox News biopic “Bombshell”. The drama puts the spotlight on the women involved in the sexual harassment allegations against Roger Ailes. Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie also star in the film.
