Avril Lavigne reaches out to Justin Bieber amid Lyme disease diagnosis

Avril Lavigne is offering Justin Bieber support after the “Yummy” singer revealed his battle with Lyme disease.

The pop-punk singer offered some words of encouragement to her fellow Canadian artist on Instagram. On Thursday — the same day Bieber opened up about his disease — Lavigne mentioned Bieber in a post that shared awareness about the illness.

“Today @JustinBieber shared that he has Lyme disease,” the “Complicated” singer wrote.

She continued, “There are too many people that have this debilitating disease! People I love and care about and many friends and fans I have crossed paths with. To everyone affected by Lyme, I want to tell you that there is HOPE.”

In the post, Lavigne also shared symptoms of Lyme and more information about it from her Avril Lavigne Foundation. The singer’s non-profit raises funds that go to research and prevention of the disease. Lavigne mentioned that her foundation also supports those diagnosed with illness and other debilitating diseases.

Back in 2015, the Canadian singer revealed to People that the reason behind her sudden disappearance from the limelight is her struggle with Lyme disease. According to the songstress, her symptoms worsened to the point where she was fighting for her life. Her battle with the disease led her to write her 2018 comeback song, “Head Above Water”.

Lyme disease is caused by a bacterial infection carried by ticks and is contracted from tick bites. Symptoms of this range from moderate fatigue to debilitating dementia. See Lavigne’s post below for more information:
